EPSDT/ Well Child Exam

EPSDT/ Well Child Exam

Parents know that they need to take their child to a pediatrician if their child falls sick. But they need to know that pediatrician visits are essential even for healthy children. A well-child exam or ESPDT, also known as Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment, is a screening test to prevent or identify any health conditions that could become a hindrance in your child's natural growth and development. The EPSDT examination should include:

  • Comprehensive health and developmental history
  • An unclothed physical exam
  • A current health/developmental history
  • Conduct test to check the child's vision and hearing
  • Developmental and nutritional assessment
  • Required lab tests
  • Identify substance abuse problems
  • Conduct oral health assessment
  • Provide health education and counseling
  • Immunizations
